Puck-like embodiment of fire; Wotan’s factotum. Not always obedient but able to point out to Wotan what his inner conflicts obscure; nevertheless reluctantly obeys orders (not without the occasional ‘told you so’). His dancing fire protects Brünnhilde, appears both as a shield and a sword intermittently throughout and cleanses Earth and Heaven at the end.
