Thank you for coming to our Ring cycle these past weeks. You have witnessed the culmination of three years of incredibly hard graft, and an artistic effort that I hope has surpassed all of your expectations.

The late Graham Clark once told me that being part of a Ring Cycle should change you in some fundamental way; I hope ours has.

I don’t wish to break the spell that we’ve cast on you, but the fact is that, in the final reckoning, we are still approximately £30,000 short of what we need- precisely the number that the Arts Council denied us.
