Midsummer Newsletter - Janáček, Puccini, Mahler...

Tomorrow, Saturday 21st June, is midsummer’s day - Johannistag itself - and we find ourselves a week away from a glorious exploration of Janáček’s quite profoundly complex opera “The Makropulos Case” and 20 days from our London performance of La Bohème, which has been splendidly received in Shropshire.

Leoš Janáček

On Sunday 29th June, at 6pm, at St. Hilda’s Church in Crofton Park, we will give a run through of Acts 1 and 3 of The Makropulos Case. It’s an extraordinary piece, that details the psychological, romantic and indeed legal troubles one can run into if you happen to be 340 years old…

The workshop includes the magnificent Philippa Boyle as Emilia Marty (or Elian Macgregor, or a host of other E.M. names she’s had over the past 300 years…), Robin Whitehouse as Albert Gregor, Gary Rushton as Vitek and Hauk, and some new names to Regents Opera: Lucy Anderson, Will Burn and Alistair Sutherland.

IF YOU ARE A STRING PLAYER and would like to play, please email Alison Holford. We’d love to have you on board.

If you’d like to come and see the run through, please do simply turn up for 6pm on Sunday 29th. We ask for (at least…) a £10 donation from you to cover costs.

La Bohème in Hoxton Hall

Tickets for our Hoxton Hall performance of La Bohème on Thursday 10th July are selling fast! And that’s not just marketing speak for “please buy our tickets”, they genuinely are. And you can tell that they are, because these are all of the words I’m going to write about it.

And MAHLER in October!

Things move forwards apace for our concert of Mahler’s remarkable Resurrection Symphony in Blackheath Halls on Sunday 5th October at 7pm. This is intended to be our launch concert and indeed party introducing our next couple of seasons.

More about that soon, but again, tickets are selling reasonably quickly…

If you’d like to be part of the orchestra for that, please email Alison.

If you’d like to sing in the chorus, please email Ben.

With continued thanks to our sponsor, Big Yellow Storage in Camberley. Thank you for looking after our stuff!

And wishing you all a great summer! Thank you for reading!
