PAUL PLUMMER is Regents Opera’s Studienleiter (Head of Music), accompanying and leading rehearsals and bearing responsibility for musical and linguistic preparation.

After New College, Oxford, where he was Organ Scholar, Paul moved to London to study piano accompaniment at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama; he also attended courses at the Britten-Pears Young Artists’ Programme and Tanglewood Music Festival and studied with Roger Vignoles, Malcolm Martineau, Margo Garrett and Andrew Ball, among others.

As an art-song accompanist he has played at many major UK festivals, including the Three Choirs, Presteigne and Buxton, and has appeared several times on BBC Radio 3 - most recently with the BBC Singers for Composer of the Week - Kasperova in 2022. In January 2008 he planned, presented and accompanied a 3-concert series of Strauss Lieder recitals at the Wigmore Hall; he is also the pianist on Love’s Voice, an album of English song with the tenor Nathan Vale (Somm) and Die Schöne Müllerin recorded with baritone Jamie W. Hall (Convivium). In 2020 he joined with members of the BBC Singers to form a collective, Proud Songsters, which gave monthly live-streamed recitals during the Covid period; these are available to view on YouTube.

In 2008 he moved to Germany to work as a repetiteur at the Kiel Opera House, then in 2010 took up the position of Studienleiter at Ks. Brigitte Fassbaender’s Tiroler Landestheater in Innsbruck. Since returning to the UK he has worked freelance for a variety of opera organisations, including the Jette Parker Young Artists at Covent Garden, the Academy of Polish National Opera in Warsaw, Music Academy International/Trentino Music Festival in the Dolomites, Buxton Festival Opera as Chorus Master, the Dunedin Consort at Edinburgh Festival 2022, and Staatstheater Wiesbaden where in 2023 he has worked as both repetiteur and assistant conductor. He is also an artistic advisor and regular accompanist for NYIOP.com.

For Regents Opera, Paul has worked on Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Die Ägyptische Helena (both as pianist and arranger of the reduced orchestration), and Der Ring des Nibelungen.
