Leonel Pinheiro, described by Opera Magazine as a unmistakably Latin tenor, was born in Braga, Portugal. He graduated from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama Opera School with distinction. Engagements include: Samson Samson et Dalila (Grimeborn Opera Festival), Don José Carmen (Mid Wales Opera, Deloite Ignite Festival at the Royal Opera House), Macduff, cover Macbeth (Scottish Opera), Il Duca Rigoletto (Devon Opera), Cavaradossi Tosca (Charles Court Opera/Musique Cordiale Festival in Provence, Regents Opera at the Wimbledon International Music Festival), Lucio Otello (Buxton Festival Opera), Alfredo La Traviata (European Chamber Opera/Bangkok Grand Opera, Bermuda Festival/Regents Opera), Gherardo Gianni Schicchi (Opera Holland Park Christine Colllins Young Artists. Leonel has been a regular at the Wexford Festival Opera, there he has sung Kozak Maria, Showman A Village Romeo and Juliet, Achille di Rosalba/Felice Il Cappello di Paglia di Firenze.
Oratorio highlights include: Royal Festival Hall debut as the tenor soloist in Mozart’s Requiem alongside the English Chamber Orchestra and the Philharmonia Chorus, Handel’s Messiah, José Maria Vitier’s Misa Cubana,
Orff’s Carmina Burana, Charpentier’s Te Deum and Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle. Future/current engagements include Turiddu Cavalleria Rusticana at Coliseu Micaelense in Azores, Portugal, Verdi’s Requiem with the Hastings Philharmonic Orchestra.
