January newsletter - The Countdown to Salome!

Dear All,

I hope your January is going well - as I write, I’m a solid 3.5 weeks through dry January, and definitely not missing beer, wine or gin a bit. Oh no, not even a little bit. No, not missing them at all… how many days are left?!?

We can now announce which cast is which:

The ODD cast - singing nights 1, 3 and 5 (10th, 18th, 21st April)

Kirsty Taylor-Stokes - Salome
Robin Whitehouse - Herodes
Freddie Tong - Jochanaan
Mae Heydorn - Herodias
Jessica Ouston - The Page

The EVEN cast - singing nights 2, 4 and 6 (11th, 19th, 23rd April)
Eleanor Dennis - Salome
John Upperton - Herodes
Joseph Gansert - Jochanaan
Deborah Humble - Herodias
Natasha Elliott - The Page

We’re delighted to announce that the Set and Costume design will be by Hannah Schmidt and Lighting Design by Azusa Ono

I was talking to someone this week who had actually studied Mark Ravenhill, our director, as part of their English degree course. It's an immense pleasure and a privilige to be working with Mark on Salome and we can't wait to share his vision with you.

Can you sponsor a character?

One of the ways we help fund these operas, is by offering our characters for sponsorship. If you can sponsor one of the roles or indeed, an element of the production, your name will appear in the programme, with our sincerest thanks and you will get to meet the singer in question for a post-show drink! I’m thrilled that someone has already sponsored me! If you can help us, please do!

But of course, the most important thing, is that as many people as possible buy tickets!

However, the most important thing is that we sell as many tickets as possible!
We have tickets ranging from £10 to £250 - the top priced seats include a gala dinner at one of the opening two nights.
The premier tables are also available on the following four nights and will give you a ring side seat at Herod's palace!

Other Regents Opera Events

On Sunday 1st March, we are exploring Strauss’s final opera, Capriccio in one of our orchestral workshops. It’s a remarkable work described as a Conversation Piece, rather than an opera, It begins with a beautiful Prelude for solo string sextet and includes a ravishing final scene for the Countess, who will be sung by our former Woodbird Corinne Hart, which has become known as a Renée Fleming special…. 6pm run through at St Hilda’s Church in Crofton Park.

We're always looking for more string players to bolster our ranks so please contact Alison at alisonholfordmusic@gmail.com

Meanwhile, I wish you a very good continuation to the New Year from a very cold Berlin!

Grateful thanks as ever to the Big Yellow Storage Company - thank you for looking after our stuff!
