October 2023 Newsletter - Bluebeard, Siegfried and the last chance to see Così
Happy Autumn everyone!
As the evenings darken and the shadows lengthen in the quiet, dusky twilights, we’re hugely looking forward to our next event, an orchestral repertoire day on Sunday 5th November on Bartok’s remarkable psycho-drama “Bluebeard’s Castle”. This is an astonishing, barely-an-hour-long work for just two singers and a surprisingly large orchestra.
We have two of our most distinguished artists singing it, Catherine Backhouse, previously our Preziosilla (La Forza del Destino) and Waltraute (Die Walküre), sings Judith. Edwin Kaye, our Padre Guardiano (Forza) sings the title role. Ed has also written a new English translation, which we will be using.
Location: The Greycoats Grey Coat Hospital Sports Hall, 98 Regency Street London SW1P 4GH (NB, this is not the school hall where we’ve done weekends before so please check the location carefully). MAP
If you are a Friend of Regents Opera, there will be a special event for you from 5pm
The Ring Continues - Siegfried at the Freemasons’ Hall
Preparations continue apace for our next instalment of Wagner’s Ring Cycle. The arrangement is days from completion, and the director and designer recently met in Berlin to start work.
We are in THE BIG GIVE, which is a giving platform that will help us solicit donations towards the continuation and completion of our Ring Cycle, and you’ll hear much more about that soon. If you are able to help with some philanthropy, then, boy, we’d appreciate it!
