Ben Woodward - Artistic Director
Ben Woodward founded Fulham Opera in 2011, as a natural evolution of "Music @ the Heart of Fulham" - the concert series out of St John's Church.
He was educated at Chetham's School of Music, was Organ Scholar at Trinity College, Cambridge, and then, after a 5 year sojourn in New York and Connecticut as an Organist and Director of Music, returned to the UK in 2007, where he completed his studies on the opera course at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He has worked extensively at German opera houses, including Staatsoper Hannover, the Musiktheater im Revier, Gelsenkirchen, and the SH-Landestheater in Flensburg.
With Fulham Opera he has led performances of the complete Ring Cycle, as well as Falstaff, Simon Boccanegra, Der fliegende Holländer, Il trittico andTosca, and has led orchestral study days on Salome, Elektra, Arabella, Peter Grimes, Dialogues des Carmélites as well as bleeding chunks of The Ring.
He is married to Catharine, whom he met recording a CD of the works of Fulham based composer Robert Mansell, and the fugue from Falstaff featured as the communion motet at their wedding.
