Fulham Opera August Newsletter

Dear all,

Everyone at Fulham Opera wish you a happy and healthy summer. Here’s a quick update with what we’ve been up to and the current state of things due to the continued impact of Covid-19 upon live theatre.

This week many of you will have seen this news in either The Stage or the same story reported elsewhere - theatres will not be allowed to return to full opening before November at the earliest, and as such, we have made the decision to reschedule our Die Ägyptische Helena production for February 2021. We don’t think that trying to do this piece in a socially distanced fashion will give it the impact it deserves, and only being able to perform it to a socially distanced audience of about 30 in St John’s Fulham would make it financially very difficult. Let us hope the world is back to normal by then.

We have heard from all of our cast that they are all available and willing to work on the production in 2021, so this is a straightforward rescheduling. More details when we have them.

Meanwhile, Fulham Opera (and friends) have done some Wagner in Isolation, and some socially distanced Wagner - both sections of Die Walküre:

Socially Distanced Walküre Act 1, with Justine Viani (Sieglinde), Brian Smith Walters (Siegmund) and Oliver Gibbs (Hunding), with Ben Woodward (piano).

If you would like to hire this performance for your (probably outdoor…) space, please get in touch!

This three singers are all principals in Die Ägyptische Helena. If you have enjoyed this, please do consider donating to Fulham Opera for that project.

Also: Fulham Opera and friends give the Ride of the Valkyries in Isolation, a completely bonkers lockdown project from London Opera Demos:

We hope you have an enjoyable and healthy summer, and we hope to get back to performing as soon as we possibly can.
